Use this guide for stackswork products that are delivered as Stack files.

Before you begin

You need Stacks App installed on your Mac and the product download supplied with your purchase. Keep the original download in a safe place.

Install a Stack for the first time

  1. Quit Stacks App before installing the new file.

  2. Open the downloaded package and locate the Stack file.

  3. Double-click the Stack file to install it.

  4. Start Stacks App and open your project.

  5. Find the new Stack in the Stacks library and add it to a test page before using it on a production site.

Install regular updates

Normal Stack updates are delivered through the built-in updater in Stacks App. Open Stacks App, run its updater, and install the available update from there. Reopen your project and check existing instances of the Stack before publishing your website.

You do not normally need to download and reinstall the Stack file for a regular update.

If the updater does not offer the update

  • Restart Stacks App and run the built-in updater again.

  • Confirm which version of the Stack is currently installed.

  • If the expected update still does not appear, contact stackswork support before replacing files manually.

Manual installation is an exception

Install a newer Stack file manually only when the built-in updater does not offer the update or stackswork support asks you to do so. Quit Stacks App, install the newer Stack file, then reopen your project and test existing Stack instances.

If the Stack does not appear

Restart Stacks App and confirm that the product download was completely extracted. If the problem remains, include the product name, product version, Stacks App version, macOS version, and a screenshot in your support request.
